OfficeMetrics eases growing pains at Phoenix Safety

The Setting

Phoenix Safety provides a range of health, safety and environmental training, consultancy and software services. With offices in Cork and Dublin and over 50 full time staff, associate trainers and consultants, Phoenix Safety is a successful and rapidly expanding business.

The Challenge

Phoenix Safety was concerned about the amount of time some employees were engaged in personal web browsing and the corresponding loss in productivity. They needed a way of improving daily productivity and enhancing employees' overall awareness of time management and work-related tasks.
Phoenix Safety also wanted to allow employees to work from home, while ensuring they continued to follow computer usage guidelines and maintained their productivity levels.

The Solution

Phoenix Safety found OfficeMetrics and their problems were solved.

  • With OfficeMetrics Phoenix Safety were able to monitor the amount of time employees spent on personal browsing, email and instant messaging. OfficeMetrics recorded the URLs visited and how long was spent on each page. It recorded who employees were emailing and instant messaging and for how long.
  • The information record by OfficeMetrics is delivered to employees as well as their managers. Employees were able to monitor their own productivity and time usage and compare this to their peers. Employees began to regulate their own activity and manage their time more effectively.
  • OfficeMetrics is delivered as a completely online service. This means that regardless of an employees location, be that at home, in the office or off site, their computer usage is always recorded and the information gathered is always available for employees and their managers to view.

The Result

Phoenix Safety saw an immediate reduction in the amount of time spent using the internet. Clerical staff were productive for an extra 3 hours per week. Taking into account the average salary and cost of the solution, this meant that OfficeMetrics had paid for itself from day one. Phoenix Safety could also allow employees to telework.
